Bathroom Tile Flooring

A household bathroom floor will normally take a bit of punishment. It needs to be not just attractive to look at, but also water resistant, hygienic and safe to walk on. That's why many carpet bathrooms are now being replaced with tiles in many modern households today. Even laminate flooring, although modern, is not suitable for the water damage a bathroom floor will suffer. There are a large variety of different tile materials to choose from including ceramic, rubber and vinyl and each material has its own benefits of use. You can also purchase natural stone tiling with a non slip finish which makes them perfect for any bathroom, even if you regularly overfill the bath.

Vinyl bathroom tiles are obtainable in a large selection of different colours and patterns. Some vinyl tile designs also include special textures to imitate other materials such as stone or wood. Vinyl is the cheapest material for bathroom tiling, easy to install, durable and clean. The only downside with vinyl is that in most cases the tiling does not produce the same atmospheric effect and feel as natural materials.

Ceramic tiles are a popular favourite among many households and can also be found in a large variety of different colours, textures and patterns. Ceramic tiles can range from fairly cheap to quite expensive depending on the type and design of ceramic tile you want. High quality ceramic tiles have been fired at high temperatures repeatedly to ensure they are more water resistant and strong. You don't need a special pattern to make your bathroom ceramic tiles stand out though. Just doing something simple like using a coloured grout can make your tiles stand out beautifully and really give your bathroom some extra style.

Stone Bathroom tiles such as marble, granite or onyx provide both beauty and durability for your floor. These tiles will take a lot of foot traffic abuse and are quick and easy to clean with little maintenance. The downside with stone tiling is that it can get a little chilly at night or in the winter and can also become slippery when wet. This is why it is recommended you purchase a non-slip finish on your stone tiles.

If your floor is looking quite plain and you just want to spice it up a little bit try adding a small mosaic pattern in the middle of your floor. An entire mosaic floor would be quite expensive but having just one central design will save you money and still look stunning in the bathroom. Many people choose only bi-colour designs for the bathroom to keep it simple and modern such as blue and white or black and white.

If you want to add bathroom mats to the design ensure the mats have a rubber backing to avoid them slipping and sliding on a wet bathroom floor. If they do not come with rubber backing you can purchase rubber backing strips separately and stick them on to the back of the mats yourself.
